Gun Show: Star players to target and avoid

With Round 4 almost completed it is already time to start considering our trades for Round 5 already!



This is another game week where all teams have a single game, however, it is also time to start to consider Sixers or Renegades players who will have the double in Round 6.



Normally, with a double game week you are always going to bring in players from teams on the double. The Sixers and the Renegades will feature heavily in many trades this week, but there are some interesting points to consider.



Starting with the mighty Sydney Sixers it is evident that they are a team in good form and sit atop of the BBL ladder.



A team in form is often a good factor to consider when trading in players. One minor problem (but it won’t stop me from considering various Sixers players) is that they are an even team that have many contributors.



This is great when you are a fan, but it is not ideal from a SuperCoach perspective. For example, last game against the Stars they had seven bowlers roll the arm over.

Moving onto the Renegades and they are the opposite when we compare them to the Sixers.



They have only won the single game so far and we have seen two major batting collapses from them within the first four rounds.



They lost recently by 129 runs against the Sydney Thunder and also got walloped by 145 against the Sixers.



Heavy defeats lead to poor SuperCoach scoring and this is something we have to factor in when trading in players.



Hopefully for Renegades fans and SuperCoach lovers we can see some rapid improvements from the Renegades side in time for their Round 6 double.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players to Target</h2>



Kane Richardson (Renegades)



Kane is the highest averaging SuperCoach performer for the Renegades thus far and looks like a great selection in preparation for their upcoming double.



He can bowl at the beginning or at the death and is a genuine wicket taking option.



He is clearly their best pace bowler and he bowled a super 19th over against the Thunder last round where he picked up two wickets and a run out to showcase his point scoring potential.



His next three fixtures are against the Sixers, Thunder and Scorchers and these are the teams he has previously scored well against with averages of 89, 86 and 82 respectively.



Glenn Maxwell (Stars)



It was another monster score from Maxwell last round proving how capable he is of going big.



He delivered a mammoth 147 points and he looks in confident and ominous form with the bat.



Although expensive when bowling, he did pick up a wicket too. He is currently a popular selection amongst sides, but he’s not in mine and I’ll be looking to bring him in quick before he goes big again and becomes ultra-expensive.

Josh Phillipe (Sixers)



Although he played one great innings against the Renegades, Philippe has looked a tad scratchy and has struggled to find some timing in this edition of the BBL.



I think he will find some form again soon and hopefully it is in time for the Sixers double in Round 6.



With a match against the Renegades in Round 5 and then matches against Brisbane and Adelaide in Round 6 I can see some opportunities for him to score some runs.



In the past he has batted fairly well against these teams. Looking at matches last year, he scored 81 not out against the Strikers, he made 61 runs against the Renegades and also contributed 52 not out against the Heat.



The fact he is a wicket-keeper means he can also pick up some points through catches and stumpings too.



Aaron Finch (Renegades)



The captain of the Renegades will be looking to set the standard and get their season back on track.



He was just going along okay before he was dismissed for 20 runs when he spooned one to Callum Ferguson against the Thunder.



I think we will see a real captain’s knock from him soon and I’ll want him in my side when it occurs.



He is a class player at international level and we have seen him go big before at BBL level. He made 109 against the Sixers last year and also made 63 not out against the Heat when on a SuperCoach double, so he is more than capable to producing the goods for your side.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players to Avoid</h2>



Shaun Marsh (Renegades)



Potentially controversial, but I am unlikely to include Shaun Marsh in my trade in options this Round.



He started the tournament with a good knock of 62 runs but has since struggled with scores of 13, 1 and 3. Hopefully he can start to find some form with the bat this round and then be a great selection ready for the Round 6 double that the Renegades have.



Jason Holder (Sixers)



He ends his three game stint with the Sixers before their Round 6 double so is not a viable option.

Rashid Khan (Strikers)



At the time of writing there is a lot of conjecture about the seriousness of his hamstring injury. The fact that he has had the double-double of games in Rounds 2 and 3 and some doubts about his availability would mean that he should not be a trade in for your sides this week.



UPDATE: Khan got through the Strikers game with success and injury-free and again becomes a valid trade in option.



Chris Lynn (Heat)



Lynn suffered a hamstring injury in the warm up before the Heat’s match against the Strikers. It is presumed he will miss the next six matches which is a major blow for the Heat.
