Champion's advice: Strategy for taking the title


<p>I&#8217;ve had a crack at providing a final month strategy for those still in the hunt for overall honours.</p>



<p>I figured this week would be the perfect
time to take a step back from listing PODs given that most SuperCoaches have
likely already enlisted their end game players of difference for the final four
weeks.</p>



<p>One thing I haven&#8217;t delved into much
this year in my articles is the idea that PODs don&#8217;t actually win you SuperCoach,
but rather the timing of your trade ins and outs.</p>



<p>This concept revolves around the fact that you don&#8217;t need to pick all the perfect differential players, but instead need to pick solid differential players at crucial points in time during the season. </p>

<p>Now, normally the bye rounds are a great
period to pick up these players but this year it&#8217;s been much harder to do. </p>



<p>With only four weeks left the top 40 teams
are within 285 points of one another, which believe it or not is the same gap I
had to second place with six weeks left last season. </p>



<p>This highlights how tight this season
has actually been, compounded by the fact that their also hasn&#8217;t been much room
for huge differential plays &#8211; especially regarding captaincy options. </p>



<p>Anybody in the top 40 still has a chance
to win the title, but it will likely take a huge risk to do so. </p>



<p>Everyone up top is running the
Teddy/Ponga combination at fullback which is fair enough give that they have
been by far the best two fullbacks all year. </p>



<p>However, we know that it is also a position where you can make up enormous ground by differentiating. </p>

<p>Tedesco is somebody I wouldn&#8217;t dare sell
at this stage of the game, however Ponga is a different story.</p>



<p>With guys like Papenhuyzen and RTS
producing some big 100+ scores it definitely begs the question, could you bring
them in for the last few weeks and deathride Ponga? </p>



<p>I say if you want to win SuperCoach this
could be the move you need to make given this year’s extreme circumstances.</p>



<p>Another two players who have caught my
attention at the top of the rankings are Zac Lomax and Pat Carrigan. </p>



<p>Indeed, both blokes have had stellar
seasons and have both cemented themselves as keepers, however the time might be
now to anti-POD them to try differentiate from the rest of the top teams. </p>



<p>Carrigan has outstanding base stats but he has had no attacking stats all season which tells me he is a guy you can safely go without for the last month, because you know exactly what scores you will forego (70-75 each week) if you sell him. </p>

<p>Lomax is a little different as he
actually does have the potential to backfire and go 100+ in games, however he
has only managed this twice all year, both of which times he scored a double. </p>



<p>Furthermore, the Dragons have a very
difficult run home after the Cowboys this week and I can see Lomax scoring a
few sub 50s on the run home so he is definitely one to think about.</p>



<p>Lastly,
I want to give a huge shout out to Tim Williams and his Cooma Stallions on
charging into the top 10 last week. </p>



<p>All

Gods be kind for the last month of footy. </p>
