Niko’s watchlist: Trades, breakevens, and tags, Round 20

2021 runner-up Steven Nikolovski analyses the players he's most interested in, but also keeps a close eye on any potential tags that might occur this week

AFL

Hovering would be a good term to use for my current season rank and status of my side.

Posting a 2609 this week moved me up a few places to 1112.  I just can’t field a full premium side and I have that sinking feeling it won’t happen.

That week I took a 75 from Dev Rob instead of trading in Houston will haunt me…

It was Laird out this time, and now I most likely must trade Walsh who was on track to beat Gawn’s feats of Round 18.

There just seems to be carnage all around and those who have played it safe and held onto trades are in a great position.  Rowan Marshall was nearly a late out too and played under duress, will he be okay with the 7-day break?  Will Laird be fit for the showdown?

My care factor is starting to wain a little, not going to lie.

The Walsh injury has seriously deflated me, especially when I opted for him over LDU for the “smaller re-injury risk”.  Oh, the irony.

Watchlist

  • Jack Steele (MID $553.9k) – Officially back with a 3-round average of 135.
  • Zak Butters (MID/FWD $529.1k) – Not in the best of form but a ceiling of 184 has him in the conversation.
  • Patrick Cripps (MID $518.9k) – Four straight hundreds before resting a corkie.  Cushy run home.
  • Jack Macrae (MID/FWD $513.5k) – I don’t like his role, only 30% CBA’s this week but still averaging 105 for the season.
  • Touk Miller (MID $506.9k) – Zero clearances on the weekend, not even a stoppage clearance.  I don’t know what’s going on with the Suns midfield setup so must pass despite my love for him as a Supercoach stud.

  • Angus Brayshaw (DEF/MID $506k) – Pretty sure he’s on my never again list, but he’s got a good role with Clarry out.
  • Josh Kelly (MID $504k) – His pathetic 23 will drop out this week and we know his ceiling is huge.
  • Callum Mills (MID 462.2k) – Ticking over nicely since returning from injury, but only 2 games at home remain.
  • George Hewett (MID 292.5k) – I could just straight swap Dev Rob to him as my M9 and keep Walsh if his scans are clear.

Break-even Analysis

BUBBLE BOY’S

  • Joel Hamling (DEF $169.6k B/E -6) – Inflated price, poor scoring, and job security.  Pass.

CONSIDER

  • Callum Ah Chee (MID 281.3k B/E -46) – I’m leaning to his 140 against the Cats being a one-off.
  • George Hewett (MID $292.5k B/E -36) – The injuries to the Blues midfielders has really opened the door for him.
  • Sam Banks (DEF/MID $169.4k B/E -36) – A nice 82 but will he keep his spot when Short returns?
  • Corey Wagner (DEF/MID $206.8k B/E -12) – Maybe an option if named again.
  • Andrew Gaff (MID $337.1k B/E -6) – The subbing has sparked something.

  • Harry Schoenberg (MID $224k B/E 0) – Shined on the MCG but Laird back will hurt his scoring.
  • Sam Flanders (MID/FWD $467k B/E 31) – The coach obviously loves him.  Another boost in the CBAs to the detriment of Rowell, Anderson, Humphrey, and to my disgust Miller.
  • Jeremy Cameron (FWD $327.8k B/E 35) – Not sure he’s going well enough, but 3 out of 5 at home to come.
  • Lachie Whitfield (DEF/MID $493.6k B/E 36) – What year is this?  Feel like I’ve gone back in time.
  • Jack Steele (MID $553.9k B/E 54) – As already mentioned, he’s back.

TRADE OUT OPTIONS

  • Tom Mitchell (MID 465.5k B/E 190) – Press T as fast as you can.
  • Rowan Marshall (RUC $568.3k B/E 145) – If he’s confirmed out could be a good trade out to someone like big Max.
  • Jack Ziebell (DEF/FWD $366.6k B/E 144) – What a fall from grace.  As cast as you can get.
  • Will Ashcroft (MID 510.3k B/E 136) – What a tragedy for the young lad.  Hopefully we see him bigger and better in 12 months’ time.
  • Kieren Briggs (RUC $499k B/E 118) – His first price drop.  I think he may be due a rest soon…
  • Sam Walsh (MID $525.9k B/E 113) – I’m assuming we are looking at the standard minimum 3 weeks out with a hammy, so a must trade.  Fingers crossed for better news.

Tag Watch

Jack Steele / Jack Sinclair – One will get the Maginness treatment this week, probably Sincs.  Steele might get Conor Nash.

Rory Laird / Jordan Dawson – Willem Drew will do a job in the showdown no doubt.

Nick Daicos – Ed Curnow perhaps, not confident he will succeed though.

Potential Trades

Sam Walsh to Jack Steele for my last trade, only $800 leftover in the kitty.
