Final word: Strategy, skippers, trades, Round 12


<p>As we lead into the bye rounds, I still sit around 4500<sup>th</sup> overall, a position that I can’t seem to shake even after 3 months of supercoach. I also have 27 trades and 1 boost left which I think should be around the median.</p>



<p>Pre-trades I already have 10 players available for round 13, so I should be able to snag the coveted 13 players over the next 4 or 5 trades, with room for a few final cash cows along the way.</p>



<p>Billy Smith seems the ideal cash cow to bring in right now with a -62 breakeven and priced at a very cheap $289k. I wasn’t convinced that he was a must have until I looked at his 40+ in base over the opening two games he’s played. Remember you’ll have 3 trades to bring in players next week, 4 if you decide to boost, so you may not be as short on round 13 numbers as you might otherwise think.</p>

<p>While we are on the Roosters, Joey Manu’s ankle injury is highly concerning for me. I know the early news is that he could be back as early as round 14, however I’m always sceptical of ankle injury timelines so think ill be selling him to another gun this week.</p>



<p>Lachlan Miller is the man for me at $663k, which I believe is a fairly discount price for a goalkicking tackle busting fullback with a high work rate, in a Newcastle team that is definitely not as bad as many think. Miller is a set and forget gun in the CTW for me going forward.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Value Propositions</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Billy Smith – </strong>Borderline must trade in this week for people with team values still below 14mil. If you’re upwards of 14m its probably time to start prioritising points over cash.</p>



<p><strong>Tolutau Koula – </strong>Brought him in last week and really liked what I saw from him, a whisker away from a try double against a tough Sharkies defence. Will do the job for you in round 13 and a solid pod play moving forward for just 450k.</p>



<p><strong>Harrison Edwards – </strong>Will make big coin over the next few weeks if needed, however be wary of players coming back into the dogs side that will impact his minutes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>PODs and SuperPODs</strong></h2>



<p>Here’s the players I’ve identified as PODs (Point of Difference players – less than 10% owned) and SuperPODS (less than 2% owned) that should be on your radar:</p>



<p><strong>PODs</strong></p>



<p><strong>Alex Johnston</strong> – The most prolific try scorer in the NRL has been kept very quiet over the opening 11 weeks, however his 3-round average of 120ish the past 3 indigenous rounds has me worried as non-owner. Almost worried enough to bring him in for the bargain price of 557k.</p>



<p><strong>Isaiah Papali’i</strong> – I predict that in about a month’s time this bloke will be backed to his standard 40-50% ownership. Ipap has shown some signs in recent weeks that he could be coming back into a semblance of his tackle busting beast mode best that we have grown to know and love as supercoaches. I’m almost tempted to bring him in early this week as I think he might go in for a pie or two.</p>

<p><strong>SuperPODs</strong></p>



<p><strong>Heilum Luki – </strong>Owned by just 597 supercoaches, who scooped a nice 121 pts from the big man last week. Provided he keeps minutes, should be on nearly every serious supercoaches radar. Luki has the game to deliver solid points week in week out as he comes into his own.</p>



<p><strong>Scott Drinkwater</strong> – I can’t believe both of my SuperPODS are cowboys players but here we are. It’s a new year and I’m finally spruiking Scott Drinkwater as a solid supercoach buy to plug at fullback over the next 5-6 weeks. We know he can go on streaks of multiple 100+ scores and he honestly looks on the cusp of such scores to me.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Captain</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Latrell Mitchell – </strong>Has been on fire lately and should be a serious C option almost every week going forward for owners.</p>



<p><strong>Nicho Hynes – </strong>Effortlessly accumulating supercoach points again, right back where he left off in 2022. Him and Cleary being in the same position makes it a hard choice every week for captain, however I like this matchup against Newcastle.</p>
