Round 2 trade targets: Ranking the best buy options 

<p>Just hoping that Donga combination you&#8217;re running does not turn in to Poeuihi 😉</p>



<p>After finishing last season just outside the top 100 with a vanilla team, I thought I would afford myself 2023 to really throw some sauce on it and make as many bold plays as humanly possible to start this season, without necessarily using max trades in the process. </p>



<p>Also, seeing as I won’t be on the podcast as much this season, I’ll try to make my weekly writeups more detailed regarding my thought processes and logic for trades and captains each week, after all those are the only two things you control as a supercoach.</p>

<p>Where do we start other than the mighty Sea Eagles, who look to be on a warpath early on this season, a refreshing change for fans. A late move to Captain Turbo and start with Garrick paid off, pushing me to a very solid 1184 which has me sitting 2059<sup>th</sup> overall, my best opening round ever.</p>



<p>Like many others I started without Harry Grant, opting for the much cheaper Smith/Luke combo. Am I panicking? Absolutely not. If you weren’t expecting 80-100 from Grant every single week that you don’t own him then you haven’t really done a great risk assessment. As for Cheese and Luke, give them time – I’m sure that the money they will make over the opening month will almost certainly outweigh the points lost by not owning Grant.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FRF</strong></h2>



<p>For FRF I said I was going to start cheap, however I couldn’t resist the lure of owning Reuben Cotter with all but guaranteed 65min a week at 1ppm. Get on! Payne Haas also looked to be severely under owned after he cracked out 79pts in 65mins with 9 tacklebusts.. 23% ownership people. </p>



<p>Tohu Harris is another one that caught my eye as a gun that you may want to move heaven and earth to get into your team. Priced at just 640k, dual FRF/2RF and by the looks of it, ready to crack out 80 in base every week.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2RF</strong></h2>



<p>As for 2RF nothing really much to report on, your obvious guns like Murray, Fifita and Koloamatangi all fired for 80+ scores. While popular mid-rangers like Egan Butcher, Luke Garner and Eli Katoa plodded away for some 35–55-point scores.  </p>



<p>More impressive in this position were the genuine cheapies. J Hopgood, say no more – this man is a genuine captaincy option when your halves/fullbacks don’t have good matchups. I was also impressed by Jackson Ford who will most likely be coming into my team at some point over the next fortnight.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Halfback </strong></h2>



<p>Next we have Halfback, not much to say other than Nathan Cleary and DCE. Throw out the other halfbacks to the wolves. Cleary obviously a set and forget, DCE not so much. I personally have young Katoa as my 2<sup>nd</sup> halfback, but after seeing what Manly did to a definitely improved Dogs outfit, I can only hold off the temptation to bring in DCE for so long to complete the triple barrel of Manly guns. </p>



<p>Realistically nobody else even gets a look in at Halfback for me besides Sam Walker simply due to draw alone – however not enough to convince me, especially after that performance against the Dolphins.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5/8</strong></h2>



<p>At 5/8 I’ve chosen to run the Doeuihi/Ponga combo AKA the Donga and it worked a charm for the opening round with both players registering multiple attacking stats and top scoring positionally for the week. </p>



<p>Ponga obviously concerns over HIA every single week, but I warn you this is a gauntlet you simply must run if you want to cash in on any 150s he pops out seemingly at random times throughout the year.  People who lost the coin toss and started with Matt Burton, unlucky, go next.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CTW</strong></h2>



<p>As far as CTWs go there actually wasn’t much we could glean from round 1. Pretty much all high ownership cheapies blanked to start the season besides the hammer and CNK who scored 76 and 70 respectively – no real interest in either guy from me though. </p>



<p>Personally, I &nbsp;need another few weeks of viewing matches before I decide to start tinkering with my centres.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Fullback</strong></h2>



<p>Finally, we get to fullback to wrap things up. Hammy? What Hammy? Of course, I captained Turbo to start the season, in fact I didn’t even end up starting with Tedesco. </p>



<p>Why? No reason other than the fact that he is a traditional slow starter, not really kicking into full tackle busting glory until r6 or r7 over the last 5 years or so of supercoach. </p>



<p>Do I want to get Teddy into my team ASAP? Yes, I do. It’s a heinous deathride and I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint hearted &#8211; this man can ruin your season with just one game week. </p>



<p>Who else can do that you ask? Of course, it’s the man who can score 150 with 5 touches Latrell ‘lazy’ Mitchell. Latrell picked up a minor injury which is of course concerning in r1; however he was goalkicking at captains run and remains locked into my starting 17 despite the tough matchup tonight</p>



<p><strong>Trades:</strong> probably none, however looking to get in Jackson Ford and Tohu Harris ASAP</p>



<p><strong>VC:</strong> Cleary C: Doeuihi</p>
