Data points: Stats show the SC teams to target/avoid


<p>We know planning ahead is critical to success in SuperCoach. </p>



<p>With a growing data set of performances to analyse with the tournament now in its second week, we can now start to comprehend which teams are performing the best and who might you target to maximise your scoring potential in SuperCoach.</p>



<p>Last season when it was all said and done, the BBL ladder very closely followed two statistical points &#8211; the first was wickets taken. The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers were far and away the best clubs and not surprisingly this correlated with the success of their bowling group to take poles. </p>



<p>In fact ladder positions 1 through 5 followed that trend &#8211; it’s true what they say that batsmen sell tickets and bowlers win titles.</p>

<p>The second point was the average amount of SuperCoach points scored per game. It shouldn’t shock that the best teams score the most points collectively, and a viable tactic to climbing the ranks is to own a piece of those sides. To help in tracking this, we’ve analysed the amount of points scored and conceded to-date by all eight clubs.</p>



<p>Now the caveats about this data is that it is a catch-all for games played across the competition and does not account for weather or total match conditions. What it can highlight however is where a mismatch might be in play and something you could target for an advantage.</p>



<p>Halfway through round 3, the table looks as follows. And as a reminder the round 4 match-ups are as follows:</p>

<p>Some points of consideration to-date:</p>



<ul><li>The Adelaide Strikers might be the new Perth Scorchers, in that there bowling attack is extremely miserly and dominating opposition batting line-ups. Between Thornton and Rashid, they’ve got two inform superstars. And the support from Wes Agar, Siddle alongside Matt Short and CdG has been great. They’ve got all bases covered.</li><li>The Perth Scorchers are <em>again</em> the highest scoring unit in the competition thanks to the bulk wickets their attack has captured. Guys like Jhye Richardson, Tye and co have the potential to be season long keepers given the propensity for their unit to capture a lot of wickets.</li><li>Both the Sixers and Hurricanes were early season favourites but have struggled and are low scoring units. Both clubs have minimal batting form and bowling attacks have lacked a little. This might mean that, inspite of the big names available, it might be prudent not to go overboard with Sixers for their round 5 DGW. They play at the SCG and Geelong &#8211; if that same SCG deck from round 3 surfaces again it won’t be a great round for batters.</li></ul>

<ul><li>The Hurricanes in particular are giving up the most points of any club through their first three games. Even in a rain shortened affair at the SCG they conceded a lot of points to the previously ordinary Sixers line-up, albeit if they’d held their catches it might’ve been a different story.</li><li>The Renegades take on the Hurricanes in round 4. If the Renegades have a good showing, it could cause their relevant trade-in targets to jump in price. So players like Hosein or Tom Rogers might be worth going early on.</li></ul>

<p>Keeping an eye on these numbers and the movement throughout the season can also help gauge when teams hit their peak form, or conversely are on the skids. I’ll be using this in particular for SGWs to consider where my VC and C options come from.</p>



<p>For round 4, I’d like to trade out Billings, Rashid and Lyth to Philippe, Hosein and perhaps Vince. I don’t love the idea of having batsman in for the Sixers DGW but Vince would only ever act as a loop option and the price is great. Good luck coaches!</p>
