Captain’s Corner: Round 16, skippers to target and avoid

The SC Bandit runs the rule over the best AFL SuperCoach captaincy and vice-captaincy options to consider.

AFL

It was back into full teams this week and many coaches would have taken great enjoyment in seeing most of the popular captaincy picks score well.

A host of popular options scored well, with the likes of Rory Laird (156), Jarrod Witts (148), Clayton Oliver (140), Sam Walsh (138), Marcus Bontempelli (136) and Jack Macrae (123) all going well in their respective matches.

This week looks like it will be a good one for loopholes, with the vast majority of obvious captaincy choices playing early in the round. You could potentially lock yourself into a nice score on the Thursday night!

Lachie Neale

Started the game against Melbourne red hot but was largely shut out of the game after quarter time with a James Harmes tag. If Brisbane want to win this game against a Bulldogs team that is playing to stay in the top eight, Neale needs to come to the party with a big performance.

Jack Macrae

Got back to his prolific SuperCoach point-scoring ways last week against the Hawks as many coaches would have predicted. This match up looks good for him again this week, he averages 151.6 against the Lions in his last three games against them! Looks to be the percentage play this week.

Marcus Bontempelli

Hard to believe that the Bont is third in line in the captaincy talks for this game, but here we are! He was excellent last week and looks like he might be past those injury niggles he had earlier in the season. If he’s not in your SuperCoach forward line yet, you need him ASAP.

Last 3 vs BRIS: 116, 138, 99

Clayton Oliver

Fresh off signing a monster seven-year contract extension, Oliver comes up against his opposition this week in the form of the Adelaide Crows. If you have him in your SC team, you’d be crazy to not have one of the two captaincy armbands on him this week.

Touk Miller

This could be a cracking game between the Pies and the Suns and it’s a good historical matchup for Touk, who has posted three scores of 115+ in their most recent meetings. If he can get off to a hot start, expect him to go large.

Last 3 vs COLL: 160, 115, 122

Jarrod Witts

Witts was another Sun who had a good performance against the Pies earlier in the year, posting 136 at the MCG. With Cameron and Cox to contend with this week I think he’ll have things mostly his own way again in the ruck, particularly with hit outs to advantage.
