Money movers: Players to trade/target to up cap value, Round 13

2021 AFL SuperCoach runner-up Steve Nikolovski assesses all the key players set to make big cash, and those set to plummet in value.

AFL

Seems as though some coaches weren’t prepared or ready for the byes; a score of 2056 catapulted me up 6392 spots which I was rapt with! For most, this coming bye will be the trickiest with very popular midfield and forward premiums unavailable.

Hopefully teams are kind on Thursday night and you can field a full 18.  Let’s see what trade options we have this week to also help with this.

Top Trade ins:

  1. Mitch Owens – Hopefully he has cemented his spot after a great showing against North. A great way to build some bank, get a decent on field scoring player, and target a premium also coming off the round 12 bye.
  2. Jacob Wehr – As above with Owens, but job security is a little iffy.  GWS and rookies don’t always mix, just look at Cooper Hamilton… Wehr is playing some nice footy and scoring okay.  Just don’t expect too much more than 60. Still a good option if named.
  3. Kai Lohmann / Jesse Motlop – I’d only pick these guys if named and you need an 18th player. Wouldn’t expect anything above 50 from either of them.
  4. Luke Cleary – Stays on the bubble after not making an appearance as the sub, now has the bye. Obvious job security issues at play here. Wait and see if named R14 before you trade him in, if at all.
  5. Luke Strnadica – I feel like this guy might stay on the bubble forever! He’s over his illness and injury but now has the bye. As with Cleary wait for R14.

Sam WalshM115$629,500121+$2.5k
Sam DochertyD128$531,100124-$1.9k

Top Trade ins:

  1. Jack Sinclair – On top as he’s already had his bye and his break-even is great. Having a super season and consistent in his Supercoach scoring.  Tiny doubts over his role when Hunter Clark, Jack Steele etc. return, but proven to be a proper premium this season.
  2. Zach Merrett – He’s cheap as chips for the player he is. Has an injury affected score that will drop out now.  Really good reliable option at a great price.  Already had his bye too.
  3. Sam Docherty / George Hewett – As you can probably tell I’m favouring the players coming off the R12 bye. If you don’t have both these Carlton guys already they are great trade in options this week.
  4. Darcy Parish – If money is no issue for you, go for him over Merrett.
  5. Max Gawn – Super appealing break-even but has his bye straight after Queen’s birthday vs Collingwood. Wait for R15.

Nick DaicosD48$373,60077+$12.7k
Greg ClarkM18$243,300N/AN/A
Malcolm RosasF4$256,600N/AN/A

Top Trade out Targets:

  1. Steven May –A club suspension for fighting with a teammate and drinking whilst under concussion protocols, then the bye. If you have him move him to one of the Carlton defenders or Sinclair.
  2. Bailey Smith – Very unfortunate set of circumstances with this pick last week, but that’s the game. Looked a brilliant trade in, now on the bye and suspended for 2 further weeks. Easy trade out for mine.
  3. Patrick McCartin / Sam De Koning – These guys have been unreal, particularly the last month or so. However, they are now on their bye and have value in them. You could easily upgrade them, and I suggest you do, especially if struggling for numbers this week.
  4. Nick Daicos – How good was he last week in the win against Hawthorn! You can absolutely hold him one more week, but you could also upgrade him to Docherty/Sinclair etc.
  5. Greg Clark / Malcolm Rosas – It’s definitely too early but you might need the funds to get the premiums you want. Lean to selling Greg Clark over Rosas.

Final Say

The trickiest bye week is upon us, and I hope you’re prepared.  Don’t be afraid to pull the trigger on players that have been good to you.  I have 19 players pre trades so hoping for another decent rank rise after this week.  Let’s see how we go. As usual, good luck!
