Squad Breakdown: Analysing the Round 6 teams

2019 NRL SuperCoach champion Dez Creek analyses every squad dropped on team list Tuesday.

NRL

I think I can speak for every Tedesco and Papenhuyzen Captainer when I say we all let out a big sigh of relief after watching Hynes only accumulate 117 against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon – it very easily could’ve been 200.

Cody and AJ speculators were reminded why you absolutely must buy players in form rather than relying on the draw alone to produce you Supercoach points, as these two fallen guns combined for a whopping 33pts against the struggling Dragons.

Turbo Irvo managed to move up to 2,478th overall which isn’t a bad place to be ranked with some enormous anti-PODs on Hynes and Grant this weekend as Melbourne and Cronulla face off.

I’m probably going to use just the one trade this week and continue building the Nathan Cleary war chest for when the Penrith drums begin to beat louder.

Let’s take a look at the round 6 Supercoach teams analysis, squads courtesy of ESPN.

Raiders vs Cowboys

Raiders: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 2. Nick Cotric 3. Matthew Timoko 4. Semi Valemei 5. Jordan Rapana 6. Jack Wighton 7. Brad Schneider 8. Josh Papali’i 9. Tom Starling 10. Joseph Tapine 11. Corey Harawira-Naera 12. Elliott Whitehead 13. Ryan Sutton.

Interchange: 14. Xavier Savage 15. Emre Guler 16. Adam Elliott 17. Corey Horsburgh.

Reserves: 18. Sebastian Kris 19. Hudson Young 20. Matt Frawley 21. Albert Hopoate 22. Jarrod Croker 23. Trey Mooney 24. Peter Hola

Analysis: The Raiders will look to take advantage of a chilly Thursday night game against the Cowboys who have to make the long journey down south.

Good news for Tom Starling owners as Matt Frawley makes way on the bench for Xavier Savage who slides into the 14 jersey.

Starling managed 58pts in an 80min outing against Melbourne this week, which bodes well for his future if he can manage to stick those minutes.

Brad Schneider stamped his authority as a Supercoach relevant player accumulating a solid 65pts without a try assist – just imagine the sort of scores he will put out when the Raiders find some form.

Cowboys: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Peta Hiku 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Tom Dearden 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Reece Robson 10. Coen Hess 11. Tom Gilbert 12. Jeremiah Nanai 13. Jason Taumalolo.

Interchange: 14. Jake Granville 15. Heilum Luki 16. Reuben Cotter 17. Connelly Lemuelu.

Reserves: 18. Emry Pere 19. Brendan Elliot 20. Riley Price 21. Daejarn Asi 22. Ben Condon 23. Ben Hampton 24. Tomas Chester

The Cowboys continue to rely on the attacking prowess of Tom Dearden as he produced yet another 60+ scoring outing despite being in a losing side, seriously impressive stuff at halfback.

Jason Taumalolo received dual FRF/2RF as of lockout this week and continues to sneak under the radar as the safest 60 base you’ll find at FRF besides Haas and I.Pap this year.

Jeremiah Nanai has probably peaked as a cash cow and can be traded in for the likes of Reuben Cotter who continued to show why he is on many Supercoach radars with a scintillating 71 in just 49mins including one linebreak.

Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs

Rabbitohs: 1. Blake Taaffe 2. Alex Johnston 3. Taane Milne 4. Campbell Graham 5. Josh Mansour 6. Cody Walker 7. Lachlan Ilias 8. Tevita Tatola 9. Damien Cook 10. Thomas Burgess 11. Keaon Koloamatangi 12. Jai Arrow 13. Cameron Murray.

Interchange: 14. Hame Sele 15. Jacob Host 16. Davvy Moale 17. Liam Knight.

Reserves: 18. Siliva Havili 19. Isaiah Tass 20. Peter Mamouzelos 21. Richard Kennar 22. Dean Hawkins 23. Terrell Kalo Kalo 24. Jaxson Paulo

Analysis: With Latrell Mitchell set to be sidelined up to eight weeks, Blake Taaffe steps up to the plate as a goal-kicking fullback/halfback dual for $210k, thank the cheapie heavens.

Lachlan Ilias and Cody Walker have yet to really find their groove as the halves pairing for the Bunnies.

Cook and Murray will continue to remain threats to defences even without their halves pairing in any semblance of form.

I’ll be making my mind on how many South Sydney players I want to carry forward based on how they go against the Bulldogs this week.

Bulldogs: 1. Matt Dufty 2. Brent Naden 3. Braidon Burns 4. Jake Averillo 5. Josh Addo-Carr 6. Matt Burton 7. Kyle Flanagan 8. Luke Thompson 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Corey Waddell 12. Tevita Pangai Jnr 13. Josh Jackson.

Interchange: 14. Brandon Wakeham 15. Chris Patolo 16. Max King 17. Joe Stimson

Reserves: 19. Bailey Biondi-Odo 20. Aaron Schoupp 21. Reece Hoffman 22. Jackson Topine 23. Ava Seumanufagai 24. Josh Cook 25. Corey Allan

Analysis: The Dogs persist with Kyle Flanagan at halfback in hopes he will be able to organise and revitalise a struggling attack.

Max King continues to make coin for owners and should peak out nicely in a few more weeks for close to $400k.

Tevita Pangai Jnr should be the only Bulldogs player worth considering as Supercoach relevant option moving forward.

Panthers vs Broncos

Panthers: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Charlie Staines 3. Izack Tago 4. Stephen Crichton 5. Taylan May 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Matt Eisenhuth 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. James Fisher-Harris 11. Viliame Kikau 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo.

Interchange: 14. Mitch Kenny 15. Scott Sorensen 16. Spencer Leniu 17. Jaeman Salmon.

Reserves: 18. Robert Jennings 19. Chris Smith 20. J’maine Hopgood 21. Lindsay Smith 22. Soni Luke 23. Christian Crichton 24. Sean O’Sullivan

Analysis: The Penrith juggernaut rolls on as cheapies Izack Tago and Taylan May continue to notch up attacking stats as CTW cheapies who begin to look more and more like season long keepers.

Cleary edges closer to his price change after this week and should thus come into serious trade consideration from next week onwards. With a breakeven of 220 we should see some big price falls in coming rounds.

Viliame Kikau, Liam Martin and Isaah Yeo are all holds this week as owners will want to capitalise on potential upside against a weak looking Broncos forward pack.

Broncos: 1. Tesi Niu 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Herbie Farnworth 5. Selwyn Cobbo 6. Billy Walters 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Keenan Palasia 9. Jake Turpin 10. Corey Jensen 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jordan Riki 13. Kobe Hetherington.

Interchange: 14. Ryan James 15. Rhys Kennedy 16. TC Robati 17. Cory Paix.

Reserves: 18. Tyson Gamble 19. Delouise Hoeter 20. Jordan Pereira 21. Ezra Mam 22. Te Maire Martin 23. Ethan Quai-Ward 24. Logan Bayliss-Brow

Analysis: Not the ideal week to lose Payne Haas for Broncos fans, however, not a horrible one for Supercoaches who likely have decent enough FRF coverage to be able to comfortably sit him out this week.

Haas’ place in the front-row will be taken by Corey Jensen with Rhys Kennedy joining the interchange bench.

Kotoni Staggs seemingly returned to form after a blistering 108 against the Roosters consisting of 14 tackle busts.

Keep in mind he won’t be running at Sam Walker every week, though we should get a proper gauge on whether we need to rush off and buy him after this week against Tago and Luai on the Panthers left edge.

Manly vs Titans

Sea Eagles: 1. Reuben Garrick 2. Jason Saab 3. Brad Parker 4. Tolutau Koula 5. Christian Tuipulotu 6. Kieran Foran 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Josh Aloiai 9. Lachlan Croker 10. Martin Taupau 11. Haumole Olakau’atu 12. Andrew Davey 13. Jake Trbojevic.

Interchange: 14. Dylan Walker 15. Karl Lawton 16. Sean Keppie 17. Taniela Paseka.

Reserves: 18. Ethan Bullemor 19. Ben Trbojevic 20. Toafofoa Sipley 21. Jorge Taufua 22. Kurt De Luis 23. Kaeo Weekes 24. James Roumanos

Analysis: Manly surprised many this week after a comprehensive win without Turbo in some tough wet conditions against the Knights.

Tolutau Koula returns from a calf injury at centre in place of Morgan Harper (COVID) and will almost certainly be the top money making CTW cheapie to buy this week.

Christian Tuipulotu gets the wing spot and should also be on Supercoach radars provided he keeps the spot another couple of weeks.

DCE and Haumole Olakau’atu have both really yet to hit their straps yet this season from a Supercoach perspective, however I think owners can expect to see this combination come to fruition over the next month as one of Manly’s best attacking outlets close to the try line.

Titans: 1. Jamayne Isaako 2. Phillip Sami 3. Brian Kelly 4. Patrick Herbert 5. Greg Marzhew 6. AJ Brimson 7. Toby Sexton 8. Moeaki Fotuaika 9. Erin Clark 10. Isaac Liu 11. David Fifita 12. Beau Fermor 13. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui.

Interchange: 14. Will Smith 15. Sam Lisone 16. Jaimin Jolliffe 17. Jarrod Wallace.

Reserves: 18. Paul Turner 19. Kevin Proctor 20. Herman Ese’ese 21. Sam McIntyre 22. Corey Thompson 23. Tanah Boyd 24. Sosefo Fifita

Analysis: Finally faithful David Fifita owners get rewarded with a seemingly effortless 107 against the high-flying Eels.

Fifita now suddenly averages back closer to his price tag and is going to be a seriously tough watch for non-owners if he finds some more outputs in the 100+ range over the coming weeks.

Beau Fermor remains a solid option at CTW due to his dual status, however questions remain over when his price is going to peak over the next few weeks.

Brian Kelly returns at centre with Phillip Sami shifting to the wing.

Storm vs Sharks

Storm: 1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Nick Meaney 3. Reimis Smith 4. Justin Olam 5. Xavier Coates 6. Cameron Munster 7. Jahrome Hughes 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Harry Grant 10. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Kenny Bromwich 13. Josh King.

Interchange: 14. Brandon Smith 15. Tyran Wishart 16. Trent Loiero 17. Tepai Moeroa.

Reserves: 18. Chris Lewis 19. Alec MacDonald 20. Marion Seve 21. Jordan Grant 22. Jayden Nikorima 23. William Warbrick 24. Sualauvi Faalogo

Analysis: Captainhuyzen came crashing back down to earth with 39pts including a try against a gritty Canberra team.

Have no fear – you can expect the mullet man to hit back this week in front of a home crowd down at AAMI Park.

Harry Grant continues to toy with opposition defences, and I don’t expect this to change any time soon, continue to death ride him at your own peril – it’s only a matter of time before he scores 130+.

Hughes and Munster continue to present solid cases for being top tier Supercoach halves options, however the question remains how oversaturated can you become on Melbourne Supercoach players?

Josh King and Xavier Coates can be sat outside your 17 this week and may be cashed in over the coming weeks having done their job to generate cash over the opening 6/7 rounds.

Sharks: 1. Will Kennedy 2. Sione Katoa 3. Jesse Ramien 4. Siosifa Talakai 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo 6. Matt Moylan 7. Nicho Hynes 8. Toby Rudolf 9. Blayke Brailey 10. Braden Hamlin-Uele 11. Briton Nikora 12. Teig Wilton 13. Dale Finucane.

Interchange: 14. Aiden Tolman 15. Cameron McInnes 16. Jack Williams 17. Andrew Fifita.

Reserves: 18. Braydon Trindall 19. Mawene Hiroti 20. Lachlan Miller 21. Royce Hunt 22. Kade Dykes 23. Jonaiah Lualua 24. Franklin Pele

Analysis: As a Hynes non-owner, I’ll be watching him with a magnifying glass this week to decide whether it’s really worth forking out close to $800k for him heading into the middle third of the season.

We should get a better understanding of his scoring floor against his old club and whether the Sharks are able to execute in attack against better edge defences.

Talakai owners can also breath a sigh of relief as the big unit has been named again to start at centre and despite only scoring 59pts against the Tigers, he was a whisker or two away from turning that into a 100+ score.

The entire Sharks backline will become Supercoach relevant if they can produce this weekend against Melbourne.

Roosters vs Warriors

Roosters: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Paul Momirovski 4. Joseph Manu 5. Kevin Naiqama 6. Sam Walker 7. Luke Keary 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 9. Sam Verrills 10. Lindsay Collins 11. Nat Butcher 12. Sitili Tupouniua 13. Victor Radley.

Interchange: 14. Connor Watson 15. Fletcher Baker 16. Angus Crichton 17. Siosiua Taukeiaho.

Reserves: 18. Lachlan Lam 19. Naufahu Whyte 20. Adam Keighran 21. Renouf Atoni 22. Daniel Suluka-Fifita 23. Joseph Suaalii 24. Drew Hutchison

Analysis: Never have I been filthier at James Tedesco than I was last week after he produced a lazy 28pts as my captain against the Broncos, albeit, in a win for the Roosters.

Teddy is already looking to be one of the most highly traded out players this week, to which I say: be my guest. Just beware, Teddy can burn you to the sidewalk on any given week, but especially in a 2pm day game at the SCG against the Warriors.

Joey Manu continues to show why he would be the number one fullback option at most clubs right now as he just can’t stop and won’t stop finding the try line thanks to what seems some superhuman strength and tackle bust ability.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho (calf) has been named to return after missing last week, while hooker Sam Verrills comes into the starting side and may bring some structure to the Roosters in attack.

Warriors: 1. Reece Walsh 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 3. Jesse Arthars 4. Adam Pompey 5. Edward Kosi 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita 7. Shaun Johnson 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. Wayde Egan 10. Matt Lodge 11. Euan Aitken 12. Bayley Sironen 13. Josh Curran.

Interchange: 14. Kodi Nikorima 15. Bunty Afoa 16. Aaron Pene 17. Eliesa Katoa.

Reserves: 18. Taniela Otukolo 20. Viliami Vailea 21. Pride Petterson-Robati 22. Rocco Berry 23. Otukinekina Kepu 24. Junior Ratuva 25. Valingi Kepu

Analysis: Warriors’ duo Josh Curran and Euan Aitken continue to spruik their Supercoach credentials after both managed to find the try line on the weekend for patient owners.

AFB owners will be wanting to see more from the big man as he lines up against JWH this week in a battle of the props.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak comes onto the wing whilst Marcelo Montoya received a four-game ban at the judiciary on Tuesday.

Dragons vs Knights

Dragons: 1. Moses Mbye 2. Mathew Feagai 3. Moses Suli 4. Zac Lomax 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Jack Bird 7. Ben Hunt 8. Francis Molo 9. Andrew McCullough 10. Josh Kerr 11. Tariq Sims 12. Jaydn Su’A 13. Jack de Belin.

Interchange: 14. Talatau Amone 15. Blake Lawrie 16. Josh McGuire 17. George Burgess.

Reserves: 18. Tautau Moga 19. Jackson Ford 20. Aaron Woods 21. Tyrell Sloan 22. Jack Gosiewski 23. Tyrell Fuimaono 24. Jayden Sullivan

Analysis: Not much to say about the Dragons other than to keep your eye on how easily Zac Lomax manages to score 50+ Supercoach pts every single game – despite how good or bad the Dragons play.

Josh McGuire comes onto the bench alongside George Burgess after Josh Kerr earned a promotion in the starting side with Aaron Woods dropping back to the bench.

Knights: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Edrick Lee 3. Dane Gagai 4. Bradman Best 5. Enari Tuala 6. Jake Clifford 7. Adam Clune 8. David Klemmer 9. Chris Randall 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Brodie Jones 13. Kurt Mann.

Interchange: 14. Phoenix Crossland 15. Jacob Saifiti 16. Leo Thompson 17. Sauaso Sue.

Reserves: 18. Simi Sasagi 19. Pasami Saulo 20. Tex Hoy 21. Jack Johns 22. Jaron Purcell 23. Dylan Lucas 24. Brayden Musgrove

Analysis: The Knights aren’t too appetising either from a footballing or Supercoach sense.

Brodie Jones obviously shapes as best 2RF cheapie buy of the week and should stand to make close to

$200k provided he can lock down an 80min edge spot for a while. Chris Randall continues to churn out okay numbers and is still going to make a fair chunk of cash moving forward, so he shouldn’t be rushed out of teams just yet.

David Klemmer (knee) has been named to make an early return alongside Edrick Lee returning on the wing for his first footy in 18 months.

Eels vs Tigers

Eels: 1. Clinton Gutherson 2. Will Penisini 3. Tom Opacic 4. Marata Niukore 5. Bailey Simonsson 6. Dylan Brown 7. Mitchell Moses 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Oregon Kaufusi 11. Shaun Lane 12. Isaiah Papali’i 13. Nathan Brown.

Interchange: 14. Makahesi Makatoa 15. Ryan Matterson 16. Hayze Perham 17. Mitch Rein.

Reserves: 18. Bryce Cartwright 19. Jakob Arthur 20. Wiremu Greig 21. Ky Rodwell 22. Samuel Loizou 23. Elie El Zakhem 24. Zac Cini

Analysis: Dylan Brown and Mitch Moses continue to light it up for Paramatta this season, and fixtures certainly don’t come much better than this one against the shambolic West Tigers.

We could seriously see a cricket score if the Tigers don’t show up with big Isaiah Papali’i my tip to go over for a double.

An injury to Waqa Blake has Marata Niukore coming in at centre and Will Penisini switching to the left wing which is traditionally a Supercoach goldmine for the Eels.

Shaun Lane returns pushing Ryan Matterson to the bench while Oregon Kaufusi replaces Junior Paulo up front.

Tigers: 1. Daine Laurie 2. David Nofoaluma 3. James Roberts 4. Luke Garner 5. Starford To’a 6. Luke Brooks 7. Jackson Hastings 8. James Tamou 9. Jake Simpkin 10. Zane Musgrove 11. Kelma Tuilagi 12. Luciano Leilua 13. Joe Ofahengaue.

Interchange: 14. Jock Madden 15. Alex Twal 16. Thomas Mikaele 17. Alex Seyfarth.

Reserves: 18. Tyrone Peachey 19. Jacob Liddle 20. Oliver Gildart 21. Ken Maumalo 22. Tukimihia Simpkins 23. Junior Tupou 24. Austin Dias

Analysis: The Tigers will hope that Jackson Hastings returning to the side at halfback will allow Luke Brooks to play his natural game at 5/8.

Daine Laurie returns to fullback after missing last week with CVOID, while James Roberts is also back and replaces Oliver Gildart in the centres.

Kelma Tuilagi shapes as a reasonable play in 17s this week running at Mitch Moses – let’s just hope he can finally see out 80mins on the park so owners can start to make some money from him.
