Final Word: Trades, tactics, tips, Round 6

An intriguing year of Supercoach continued with surprisingly low scores to SC coach favourites Papi and Teddy and a quick bounce back by this year’s golden boy Nicho Hynes.&nbsp;



After 5 rounds we are nearly a quarter the way through the competition, so we certainly have enough sample size for most players to see what they are able to do and project who we need to bring into our team and when during the season to get us to the top of the Supercoach leaderboard!&nbsp;



Almost a quarter of the way through the season here’s my position-by-position breakdown of where we stand so far and the players that should be on your radar:&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Strategy </h2>



I’m pretty happy with my output last week with a score of 1,232 catapulting me up the rankings into 1675th and positioned me well after 5 rounds.&nbsp;



Captaining Nicho Hynes certainly helped, however it seems I can’t quite nail my selctions and bench, leaving somewhere like 75-100 points on the table due to not picking the right players.&nbsp;



Most importantly I am pretty happy with the make-up of my team.&nbsp;



For those of you who have been reading my Final Word articles all year you will know that my strategy focus this year has been on acquiring VP’s (Value Propositions).&nbsp;



Value Propositions are basically players that I believe are undervalued and will outscore the price I purchase them for.&nbsp;



To test how on track I was this week I tallied up the cumulative breakevens for my 25-man squad and it totalled to 619 or 24.76 per player.

Then I tallied up the cumulative projected scores for this weekend and it totalled 1,508 or an average of 60.32.&nbsp;



Whilst I pay little to no attention to projected scores it gave me a nominal value on my players for this week and showed me that my strategy is well in play and progressing solidly so far.&nbsp;



This week is going to be a test of my resolve and patience. With Storm and Sharks playing each other it is not necessarily a great match-up for any of my main considerations for captain in Papi, Grant, Munster and Nicho Hynes.&nbsp;



Whilst I’m tempted to trade in Mitchell Moses, I believe Schneider has more cash generation and is actually a top-17 play this week and I can’t go past getting in Blake Taaffe after Latrell was ruled out for eight weeks.&nbsp;



Nicho and Papi occupy my other two positions in the HFB and FLB slots.&nbsp;



I utilised my full allotment of trades including boosts in the first three weeks and last week used two trades to bring in Taylan May and Siosifa Talakai. &nbsp;



This week I am looking at using another two trades:



Trade-1 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Billy Smith to Blake Taaffe (via duals) or Tolatau Koula &nbsp;



Trade-2        Jeremiah Nanai to Reuben Cotter

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PODs &amp; Super PODS </h2>



Here’s the players I’ve identified as PODs (Point of Difference players – less than 10% owned) and Super PODS (less than 2% owned) that should be on your radar.&nbsp;



I’ve listed them in ranking order of who I believe is the best to take the risk on:&nbsp;



PODs (My top-6 ranked)&nbsp;



1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Reuben Cotter – The 49mins on Friday night v Warriors in a golden point game appears somewhat concerning, however Cotter is rock solid and given 50-60mins a game he can produce at more than 1 PPM. Get him in!



2.&nbsp;&nbsp; Brodie Jones – Looked better than his first game and punched out 80mins. Looks locked in for the 80mins for the foreseeable future with a 2RF injury crisis at the Knights. Bring him in!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;



3.&nbsp;&nbsp; Josh Curran – Working very hard and does have attacking stats in his game that can lead to really big SC scores as we have seen over the weekend. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;



4.&nbsp;&nbsp; Campbell Graham – Just continues to deliver with an average of 62.8 and three games out of five with 70+ scores.



5.&nbsp;&nbsp; Haumole Olakau’atu – An attacking strike weapon for Manly with Turbo out injured.&nbsp;&nbsp;



6.&nbsp;&nbsp; Tevita Pangai Jnr – Loves an offload and doesn’t come without significant risk, not least of all his penchants for ill discipline and brain explosions, but one to consider for those who like to play on the edge.&nbsp;



Super PODs (Top-4)&nbsp;



1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ronaldo Mulitalo – really risky and I wouldn’t do it this week. Attack stats dependant!



2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sione Katoa – same as above.&nbsp;



3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Andrew Davey – probably just warming a spot for the return of Josh Schuster, but certainly can make some handy cash in that time.&nbsp;



4.    Jesse Arthurs – again attack dependant, but is forming a strong combo with SJ at the Warriors.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CLOSE WATCH</h2>



This segment will list the players to keep a close watch on over the next month for their Supercoach prospects:



1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cody Walker – keep watching him closely. Don’t even think about trading him in until there are signs of life.&nbsp;



2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Nathan Cleary – Still a watch but his return to a lot of SC teams is becoming imminent.&nbsp;



3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cam McInnes – Keep monitoring his minutes for the next 3-4 weeks as eventually his price will plateau and he will be a buy.&nbsp;



4.    Marata Niukore – Tricky price, but returning to a team with lots of attacking confidence and will seemingly have the run of the position until injured troops return.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ROUND 6 MATCH-UPS </h2>



Two key match-ups loom large.&nbsp;



Friday night the Panthers at home to a Haas-less Broncos side spells danger. Cleary, Tago, Taylan May, Kikau, Chrichton and others could all be in for big scores.&nbsp;



Don’t forget James Tedesco, Sam Walker and Joey Manu match up against the Warriors in a day game. The Warriors middle third defence has been less than ideal so far this year.&nbsp;



Monday afternoon footy for Easter Monday could be a bloodbath! The Eels have been firing at home so far this year and the Tigers are low on confidence.&nbsp;



However, they do get Hastings back and I consider him the leader of the club now he has been moved to halfback. &nbsp;



Moses, D Brown, Gutho, Penisini and I.Pap all look great SC play options. I also like Kelma Tuilagi as a play running at Mitch Moses.&nbsp;



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CAPTAIN</h2>



Mitchell Moses will be a popular choice for those willing to wait until Monday.  Tedesco, Cleary and Taylan May look the other standout options of the round.
