Analysing the top 100,000 NRL Supercoach teams after Round 4



Not surprisingly, week 4 saw some huge movements in team rankings and hence our player ownership percentages.&nbsp; Clearly no player was more important to own (and captain) than Ryan Papenhuyzen.



Take the team leading overall after week 3 (‘JAV’) for example.&nbsp; With no Ryan Papenhuyzen in their side and instead captaining Nicho Hynes, they plummeted down to 1,383rd in the rankings – in one week!



The Parramatta halves also pumped out big hundreds and Dylan Brown in particular has been a huge pick up at five-eighth. I may or may not have been tossing up between Brown and Jake Clifford three weeks ago and gone the wrong way!



Let’s get into our analysis of the top 100,000 teams.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fullback</h2>



The table below sets out the proportion of teams in the top 100, top 1,000, top 5,000, top 10,000, top 20,000 and top 100,000 that own each fullback.&nbsp;



Not surprisingly, FLB rankings are now dominated by Ryan Papenhuyzen – with a whopping 94% of the top 20,000 teams owning him.&nbsp; With a projected price increase of $140k over the next two weeks and a juicy upcoming draw I suspect those who don’t own will be doing whatever it takes to rectify the situation.&nbsp; What a player.



Turbo’s injury has added insult to injury for those who held whilst Nicho Hynes disappointed the raft of teams who brought him in last week.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CTW</h2>



It was another action-packed week at CTW.&nbsp; The Penrith boys (Tago and May) once again posted big scores and will both be owned by almost everyone this time next week.&nbsp; May is already owned by 78% of the top 100 and 58% of the top 20,000 – and with a breakeven of minus 123 next week, any team that doesn’t already own him and trade him in this week is simply not playing Supercoach properly.&nbsp; What a start to the young man’s career.



Beau Fermor’s COVID bout will have disappointed his owners whilst Kotoni Staggs is arguably beyond the patience testing phase.&nbsp; What is going on there?



Joseph Manu and Daniel Tupou reminded everyone of their credentials and are now the third highest and fifth highest scoring CTWs this season respectively.



Tyrell Sloan, Talatau Amone and Staggs were all sold down last week, with May being the obvious target.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Five-eighth</h2>



Dylan Brown has now posted back-to-back tonnes and, as a result, is a huge factor in determining overall ranking.&nbsp; Only 10% of the top 100,000 teams own Brown, but a whopping 50% of the top 100 own him – and 35% of the top 1,000.



The issue now of course is his price.&nbsp; I’d love to bring him in – but is worth paying more for Brown than say Cody Walker?&nbsp; The projected $140k price increase helps of course – as does a soft Eels draw.&nbsp; He will be hard not to bring in.



Cameron Munster must have frustrated his owners on Sunday.&nbsp; In a 44-nil win, Munster could only manager 33 points and was generally very quiet throughout.&nbsp; Munster was actually the third most popular captain last week, with 11% of the top 100,000 teams putting the arm band on him.&nbsp; They must have been spewing.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Halfback</h2>



Mitch Moses served a timely reminder to Supercoaches on the value of patience.&nbsp; I know of a few people who traded Moses to Hynes last week…only to see Moses outscore Hynes by an even 100 points.&nbsp; Sure he won’t score 144 every week – but those who stood by him would be chuffed.



Moses is now owned by 30% of the top 100 – but only 16% of the top 100,000 teams.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2RF</h2>



The Angus Crichton fire sale continued last week and his ownership amongst the top 100,000 teams has fallen from 31% two weeks ago to just 6%.&nbsp;



David Fifita did little to comfort his owners – or at least this frustrated owner.&nbsp; No doubt he has some big scores in him at some point, but I think I’m done.&nbsp; For mine, he just isn’t getting involved enough for a player chewing up so much salary cap space.



Siosifa Talakai had a storming game for the Sharks posting a score of 108 that could have been close to 200.&nbsp; I just can’t go there though.&nbsp; I owned him for half of last season, and I have to put last week’s score down to a one-off.&nbsp; Good luck to those who take the punt.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FRF</h2>



Not much doing at FRF.&nbsp; Josh King has been a revelation at the Storm and has increased in price by almost $140k.&nbsp; Ethan Bullemor’s owners are grateful that he was dropped from Manly’s 17 ensuring his price held.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">HOK</h2>



Harry Grant is now owned by 47% of the top 10,000 teams.&nbsp; Barring injury, I can only see that ownership percentage increasing.&nbsp; He just looks such a standout at HOK.&nbsp; Damien Cook has posted a couple of decent scores in a row so could be an interesting POD – although I personally can’t go against Harry.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Round 4 Captaincy Choices</h2>



Nicho Hynes was the most popular captain amongst the top 100,000 teams last week – with 24% of teams captaining Nicho.&nbsp; Not surprisingly, however, those who captained Nicho were punished – with just 14% of the top 20,000 and 4% of the top 1,000 teams having captained Hynes.



It’s pretty simple – if you didn’t captain Ryan Papenhuyzen, you plummeted down the rankings.

There are a range of viable captaincy options in round 4.  Papenhuyzen’s owners will be very tempted to back up and go again as the Storm take on the Raiders whilst Nicho Hynes could score anything against the Tigers.  



I imagine anyone who has made the early move on Nathan Cleary would be captaining him against the Bulldogs – otherwise why even own him?  James Tedesco could be a real POD captaincy option against the Broncos – although personally I’ll be favouring one of the aforementioned goal kickers.
