Champion's Advice: Final strategy in hunt for overall glory

Congratulations to those of you genius Supercoaches who have managed to avoid most of the carnage whilst pulling off the right trades at the right times throughout what has undoubtably been the most frenetic and high scoring Supercoach season of all time.



Good luck for the final five weeks if you are still in the hunt for the title or even a very respectable top 500/1000 finish depending on your experience playing the game.&nbsp;



To put this season into some perspective, the year I won in 2019 my average score by season’s end was 1,207 (and a newly set record).&nbsp;



Fast-forward to this year where the number one ranked team ‘THE VILLI ARMY’ currently averages 1,354 a round… we have said it all season now – ceilings are so much more important than base stats.

A complete Supercoach revolution has been undertaken over the last three seasons and it will take some time for some of the veteran players to adapt.&nbsp;



With only five rounds left, the gap between 1st and 10th is around 500pts, and the gap from 1st to 200th is 1000pts (probably a little too much to make up even with some miracle luck and trades left).&nbsp;



So, we have very few people who can realistically make a massive charge at the title from anywhere more than the top 50-100 back.&nbsp;



Now, compound this fact that there also hasn&#8217;t been much room for huge differential plays &#8211; especially regarding captaincy options (if you aren’t locking in Turbo you’ll continue to fall behind – I will probably be keeping it on him even against Melbourne just for reference).



Anybody in the top 100 still has a chance to win the title but it will likely take a huge risk to do so. Everyone up top is running Turbo, so it’s fair to say that getting your second fullback right will be a critical component to where you eventually rank.&nbsp;

Ponga has the draw, Teddy has the consistency and Papenhuyzen (if he gets back to 80 minutes) has the X-factor.&nbsp;



Yep… good luck splitting them, my best advice? Another player that just became an extreme prospect given this week’s team lists (not that he wasn’t already) is Jason Taumalolo. Praise the heavens Supercoaches, Lolo starting on an edge and looking primed to get 80 minutes? Lock him in if you have the luxury to do so.&nbsp;

I also like Tyson Frizell as a POD for the run home. Averaging a very healthy 65+ Friz has upside to him, and with that Knights draw I would be taking a serious look at him if I was in the top 100 and wanted to throw some caution to the wind.&nbsp;



Not much else to say this week other than hold trades if you can and take the AE at halfback if you have Hughes/SJ and Hughes gets ruled out last minute (not worth wasting a trade for just a one week injury when you only have 1-2 trades left now).&nbsp;



However, if you’re forced into making your final trades just make sure to base your decision off the player percentages that SC Playbook provides as well as your own gut feeling and convictions.&nbsp;

I liken the game Supercoach to the TV show Survivor, you have to Outwit, Outlast and Outplay the competition while not losing your sanity in the process when it comes to crunch time, otherwise you might make that one bad trade or captaincy choice and next thing you know your torch is snuffed and you are out of the game. Anyways no pressure!&nbsp;



Go hard, use all the information you have at hand to make the best final trades you can and leave the rest up to the almighty Supercoach gods.
