Croker’s Call: New peak as Papy sizzles

Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker reveals his trades and tactics for Round 12.

Croker's Call

Just about everything, except captaincy choice, fell into place last week for Croker’s Stockmen.

We knocked out a monster 1,299 points which saw an equally monster rise in ranks to 1,940.

Couple that score with a win for the Raiders and it made for a fairly exciting weekend all round.

Aside from Tedesco’s 53 as captain, and Ryan Matterson’s 8 due to a head knock, it was a hard week to fault.

Ryan Papenhuyzen (122), Cam Smith (110), David Klemmer (102) all hit three figures for me.

While my halves combo of Cameron Munster, Shaun Johnson and Luke Keary also hit their straps.

Somehow I still got beaten in the SC Playbook league!!!

It was the 2019 champ who knocked me off with 1,340 points, so I suppose I can cop that.

We’re in the top 20k, so the next aim is to hit the top 15k, and of course score a few league wins.

Onto Round 12.

JAKE AVERILLO to JAXSON PAULO

Nothing overly exciting to extend on here, it’s simply a move to make some cash. Averillo has earned good money for me so I’m happy to move him on.

Rabbitohs winger Jaxson Paulo comes into my side and can hopefully add some value to my squad as a reserve.

TOMMY TALAU to MAIKA SIVO

Here’s a trade I’m both nervous and excited about. Talau is clearly talented and has a nice game with the Warriors on Friday night. The Warriors are digging deep of late, but with a few players returning home, and new players coming into the squad it’s a big ask.

Anyway, trading Talau facilitates the upgrade to Eels winger Maika Sivo. Sivo is a big beneficiary of Dylan Brown’s form inside him.

Brown’s ability to play direct and engage defenders is really isolating the opposing winger, and when Sivo gets that one-on-one it takes a miracle to stop him with a full head of steam.

The Eels have a fairly nice run of games this year and they’ve proven they’re the real deal, so hopefully Sivo finds the line frequently.

CAPTAINS

I’ll give James Tedesco another chance after a disappointing round last week. He again gets an opposition he’ll fancy himself against, so hopefully the attacking stats fall his way.

The Roosters will be out to make amends for a scrappy win last week, so don’t expect any complacency.

My vice-captain will be Shaun Johnson. I don’t have many other prime options early in the round, so hopefully the playmaker can continue his good run of form.

Good luck to everyone in Round 12!
