Croker’s Call: Teddy arrives to continue rapid rise

Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker reveals his trades and tactics ahead of Round 9.

Croker's Call

Finally the squad is finding some consistency with big back-to-back scores leading to another rise in rankings.

The Stockmen scored 1,154 last week to jump up into 30,747th place. It’s nothing to gloat about, but as a rookie SuperCoach player it’s promising to see improvements.

My main goal however is taking out the SC Playbook league. Despite a good week, I was knocked off and slipped to fifth place on the ladder.

What’s worse is that my little mate Sammy Williams is leading the league with five wins and a loss. He’s obviously got a bit of extra time to sort his side than me at the moment…

My captaincy choices let me down again with Ryan Matterson scoring 64 points. Outside of that I hardly had a player go low, except for Kalyn Ponga who scored just 19 points.

On to Round 9.

KURT MANN – BEN TRBOJEVIC

I’m not very happy about this trade to be honest. Mann has been extremely consistent for me, so it’s going to be hard to let him go.

I need to do it to free up some cash for my next trade, and the likes of Best, Rudolf and Marsters all leave me agonisingly short.

I need max cash, so Ben Trbojevic comes into my centres. I already own brother Jake, surely a bit of family comradery can only be good for team morale?

KALYN PONGA – JAMES TEDESCO

It cost me an arm and a leg, but Tedesco is finally a member of Croker’s Stockmen. He takes on the Cowboys tonight and will hopefully get a nice dry track in Townsville.

My entire squad takes a hit with this trade, but not owning Tedesco is no longer an option. I’m cutting ties with Ponga somewhat reluctantly, but he’s set to lose a fair bit of money and he’s my only realistic avenue to Tedesco.

CAPTAINS

It’s an easy option here. If I’m paying almost one million for Tedesco he’ll be my skipper. Let’s hope he can repay the faith with a good score to help boost me a little further up the ranks.

Good luck to all in Round 9!
